Опытный паровоз ИС20-16 оборудованный капотом-обтекателем, дисковыми колесами, также изменены будка и тендер. С постройки поступил для испытаний на Северо-Донецкую ж. д. Проведённые испытания подтвердили значительное снижение вредного сопротивления паровоза на высоких скоростях. С 03.1937г. поступил в депо Москва-Техническая ж. д. имени Дзержинского (Московско-Курской ж. д.) С 10.1939 г. депо Москва-I Октябрьской ж. д. С 10.1940 г. депо Славянск Южно-Донецкой ж. д. В 11.1941 г. эвакуирован на Омскую ж. д. (не работал) С 08.1943 г. Забайкальская ж. д. (не работал, находился на базе запаса Чернышевск-Забайкальский) С 04.1946 г. Восточно-Сибирская ж. д. (не работал, находился на базе запаса Гусиное Озеро) С 05.1952 г. Свердловская ж. д. (не работал) В 10.1953 г. прошел восстановительный ремонт на Днепропетровском ПРЗ, обтекатель демонтирован, поступил для работы в депо Дема Уфимской ж. д. С 06.1955 г. депо им. А. А.
