The first full day we had in Mongolia had a forecast similar to back in the UK, cloud, wind, rain and maybe some sun so we took a short journey out of the city. For this 2TE25KM we had a bit of luck with a patch of sun which seemed to follow the loco along as it slowly headed south with quite a heavy train.

Yeah it's a place I really wanted to visit and whilst visiting the mainland part of AZ it was a no brainer to go here as well.

We didn't hire a car this time, we hitchhiked around areas near Nakhchivan city and also took the train to Julfa.

A visit to Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan region is a must if interested in the VL8's. Having wanted to see a VL8 for some years now it was a great day for me. VL8's however aren't the only great thing about this exclave however as you can take the train through amazing scenery, meet friendly locals and experience such a welcoming place.

Yes I did, there was at least 1 EP3D as well as a 2TE10V (I think it was a V) but without any numbers on it....

No I was by the exit to the station at the south end. The loco I think had brought some wagons in.

Thankfully for me the weather that day was poor but during our stay a lot of drift wood and rubbish washed up on the shore making it difficult to swim. I still managed lots visits to the water though))

Until taking the suburban train to Batumi and passing the overnight train to Yerevan going the other way I was under the impression a Georgian VL would haul this international train, how pleased I was to be corrected. With nearly a week planned in Batumi for relaxing and swimming in the Black Sea I hoped for some less holiday like weather to capture the Armenian VL10 and towards the end of the stay I got lucky!

Great scene!

Autumn is here according to the railways with the start of the RHTT season across the UK. This is where special trains of top and tailed wagons travel around the network blasting high pressure sandite solution on the railhead. The aim of this? To improve adhesion so traction isn't affected as much. Otherwise trains will slide through stations and cause chaos))
Here 37425 crosses Knaresborough Viaduct, over the river Nidd working 3S29 York Thrall Europa to York Thrall Europa. The loco is repainted into Regional Railways colours, a variation of British Rail for, you guessed it, regional train services.
